Nursing
The
curriculum consists of nursing theory and research, combined with direct use of
health-related equipment in the lab, such as patient and childbirth simulators.
It is required for students to have a fixed number of hours working in a hospital
or other medical center. The skills and experience will allow students to know
how to effectively respond to different health care needs. Graduates will be
prepared to immediately start their nursing career and become great future leaders
in healthcare.
Required Courses: HSC 230 Human Anatomy and Physiology A study of the structures and functions of the body, with special emphases on histology and the integumentary, skeletal, muscular and nervous systems. BIO 183 Microbiology for the Allied Health Science Focuses on diseases and the organisms that cause them. It also focuses on infectious disease caused by medical and surgical practices and accidental injuries. NUR 201 Foundations of Nursing This course introduces students to the foundations of professional nursing practice. The concepts of caring, communication, critical thinking and cultural competence are introduced. NUR 345 Pharmacology This introduces students to the basics of pharmacology and therapeutics in the treatment of illness, and the promotion, care and restoration of health in patients across the lifespan. NUR 314 Nursing Care of the Developing Family This course examines the concepts associated with the diverse responses of families during the childbearing cycle, including normal and high-risk pregnancies and normal and abnormal events occurring in women. |
